As the new President of the Plainview Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, I would first like to thank my predecessor, Francesca Carlow, for her tremendous efforts in reviving our Chamber some eight years ago. Today, our Chamber is active, vibrant and relevant to our business community needs.
Our members meet every third Wednesday of the month, ten months a year. Our Board, a group of eleven dedicated community leaders, meets separately, every first Wednesday, twelve months a year, to discuss and resolve issues to better the environment of our business community.
This year, we are initiating several new functions and events that will bring our community together and hopefully increase our exposure outside our community.
In September, our Kick-off meeting was held at the The Main Event with forty five participants attending the informational luncheon, highlighted by a renowned speaker on “Networking”.
This month, our meeting will take the form of a Candidates Forum, where eight candidates for four local elections will debate relevant issues of our Town, County and New York State.
In November, we will meet at the Plainview Water District offices and hear from the Plainview Superintendant Rich Tobin.
In December, we will initiate a New Member Drive, where every member will be asked to bring a prospective new member to our meeting, where they will hear from several spotlighted speakers and hopefully be convinced that membership can and will add to their business needs. We will also have our inaugural Holiday Dinner at the Marriott Residence Inn.
It is my intent, with the help of our Board and membership, to grow our Chamber by 50% over the next two years. We have a substantial number of businesses in town that would benefit greatly from membership and it will be our goal to educate and communicate to these prospective members the benefits of the Chamber and its membership.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to any constructive criticism to make our Chamber and Community better.
